The newest faculty member with a joint appointment between JPSM and the iSchool, CHRIS ANTOUN is doing research that focuses on using smartphones to collect survey data, either through mobile Web questionnaires, mobile apps, or text messaging. While a doctoral student at the University of Michigan, Antoun worked for three years on a research project exploring the use of text messaging on iPhones for data collection. Antoun’s dissertation reported on an experiment to investigate the effect of two different devices, smartphones and PCs, on response quality in a Web survey. While a postdoctoral researcher at the Census Bureau, Antoun helped design and conduct a series of lab experiments to determine ways to design effective smartphone questionnaires.
