Lifetime Achievements of JPSM Director Prof. Partha Lahiri Celebrated at Two International Events
Professor Partha Lahiri, director of the Joint Program in Survey Methodology (JPSM) , was recently honored at two significant international events, underscoring his extraordinary contributions to the discipline.
The Fourth Congress of Polish Statistics. During the Fourth Congress of Polish Statistics, held in Warsaw, Poland, from July 2-4, 2024, Lahiri was named an honorary member of the Polish Statistical Association. Lahiri was one of only two researchers from outside Poland to receive this prestigious honorary membership this year. In presenting this honor to Lahiri, Dominik Rozkrut, President of Statistics Poland and President of the International Association for Official Statistics, noted, “Your profound contributions to Small Area Estimation and Survey Methodology have not only advanced our field but have also enriched the work of both academicians and public statistics experts in Poland.”
In addition, the Congress organized a special plenary session dedicated to celebrate Lahiri’s lifetime professional achievements. Colleagues and peers gathered to acknowledge his contributions and offer heartfelt tributes, culminating in the presentation of three letters of recognition.
Small Area Estimation (SAE) 2024 International Conference
Earlier in the summer, Lahiri was also celebrated at the SAE 2024 International Conference held in Lima, Peru, from June 3-7, 2024. The conference — co-sponsored by several international organizations and associations, including the International Association of Survey Statisticians (IASS), the International Association for Official Statistics (IAOS), and the United Nations Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean — marked his 65th birthday with special sessions and events.
Both celebrations reflect Prof. Lahiri's enduring influence in the world of statistics, with a legacy that will continue to inspire future generations of researchers and practitioners.
