Ujjayini Das, a PhD candidate, and Andrew C. Forrester, a second-year PhD student have secured first place at the 2024 Data Challenge Expo during the Joint Statistical Meetings in Portland, Oregon. The competition, organized by the American Statistical Association, featured innovative research using General Social Survey data.
Their poster presentation impressed judges with its novel insights and methodologies.

The Washington Statistical Society (WSS) has selected Yuting Chen, a Ph.D. candidate from the Joint Program in Survey Methodology (JPSM), as one of the recipient of the 2024 Outstanding Graduate Student Award. This recognition highlights Yuting's hard work, dedication, and significant contributions to the field of statistics.
During the summer of 2023, Yuting worked as a research intern at Gallup, where she contributed to projects focused on developing survey methodologies to improve panel quality and data analysis. This summer, she is working as a short-term consultant at the World Bank Group, where she is integrating advanced small area estimation methods into their software packages.
Harold Gomes Wins 2023 Poster Award from American Statistical Association
Harold Gomes, a JPSM PhD candidate has been awarded the 2023 Poster Award by the Survey Research Methods Section (SRMS) of the American Statistical Association. The announcement was made during the SRMS mixer at the Joint Statistical Meetings (JSM) in Toronto.

Soumojit Das Awarded ASA's Edward C. Bryant Scholarship for Excellence in Survey Statistics at JSM 2023
Congratulations to Soumojit Das for being honored with the ASA’s Edward C. Bryant Scholarship for outstanding graduate students in survey statistics at JSM 2023. Soumojit earned his PhD in Applied Statistics in August 2024 under the guidance of JPSM Professor Partha Lahiri. His dissertation introduced innovative Bayesian small area estimation methodologies utilizing complex survey data. During his tenure as a JPSM Graduate Research Assistant, Soumojit contributed to National Science Foundation-funded small area estimation projects under Professor Lahiri and worked on a U.S. Census Bureau-funded large-scale interdisciplinary project focusing on differential privacy (DP) for survey data under Professor Joerg Drechsler.
