Dr. Partha Lahiri, Professor and the Director of the University of Maryland’s Joint Program in Survey Methodology (JPSM), has been appointed as the President-Elect of the International Association of Survey Statisticians (IASS). He will serve as the President-Elect of IASS through 2025. At that point he’ll take over as IASS President and serve until 2027.
The IASS was founded in 1973 and is a section of the International Statistics Institute. The association aims to promote the study and development of the theory and practice of sample surveys and censuses. Its main purposes include increasing the interest in surveys and censuses among statisticians, government and the public across the globe.
Professor Lahiri has been at the University of Maryland for more than two decades. He also serves as a Professor in UMD’s Mathematics department. In addition to his duties at Maryland, Professor Lahiri serves as an adjunct Research Professor at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. He is a Fellow of the American Statistical Association and Institute of Mathematical Statistics.
Before his arrival in College Park, Professor Lahiri held an appointment as the Milton Mohr Distinguished Professor of Statistics at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
During his career Professor Lahiri advised international organizations such as the United Nations and the World Bank and served on numerous advisory committees and panels, including the U.S. Census Advisory Committee.
